Happy Hour For Good! Thursday July 21st @ 5:30 - Center for Wooden BoatsJust a quick reminder that we will be having another Happy Hour for Good Thursday July 21st. Join us tomorrow night for wine, beer and a spread of delicious snacks and live music from the Sourmash Stevedores. This months beneficiary is Northwest Seaport, we will have a very very brief presentation about NW Seaport and the great work they are doing and a few minutes to update you on Lake Union Rotary's activities. Don't worry 95% of the time will be dedicated to true happy hour activities, socializing, snacking, enjoying beverages and taking in the scenery of our wonderful location, the Center for Wooden Boats. We will have one special addition to our nights activities and that is tours of historic Arthur Foss tug boat which is a National Historic Land Mark.
Northwest Seaport is dedicated to preserving and interpreting Puget Sound and the Northwest Coast's maritime heritage by developing maritime-based educational programs for a broad community. It does this primarily through the restoration, and sharing of its historic vessels that include 1904 Lightship Swiftshure and the 1889 Tug Boat the Arthur Foss. The Arthur Foss will be open for guided tours as part of the Happy Hour, where you can learn about its amazing history from being the movie set for the Shirley Temple film Tugboat Annie to its war time service in World War II when it was the last ship to escape Wake Island. Come join us for a fun sunshine filled evening (fingers crossed) on the docks of the beautiful Center for Wooden Boats and aboard the Arthur Foss
Join us Thursday and be happy while doing some good! |

Join us tomorrow Friday July 15th, 2011 at 7:15 am for a meeting of the Lake Union Rotary Club.
If you were not able to join us last week, you missed a great meeting filled with a number of "Firsts". It was the first meeting of the 2010-2011 Rotary Year, and the first meeting led by our new club president, Isabella McPeak. We had a number of first time visitors who joined us for our first meeting in the Center for Wooden Boats boat shop. While our club regularly meets at the Center for Wooden Boats and has met aboard many historic vessels, last weeks meeting was the first time we met amongst the tools, ban saws, clamps and shop equipment.
Speaking of Firsts....... our speaker this week is associated with an organization that the Rotary Club of Lake Union has had an association with since it's formation, Rotary FIRSTHarvest. Rotary First Harvest works with farmers to obtain excess produce and get it in to the regional food bank system. This week we will be hearing from Benjamin Rasmus about a new program that they have created called Harvest Against Hunger.
This program is a perfect topic for our second meeting because it focuses on organizing volunteers to conduct a secondary harvest of produce left in the fields after the initial harvest, also know as gleaning. Benjamin will share information about the growth of this program and the results that the program and its volunteers have had in helping stock our region's food banks.
We hope you will join us for breakfast tomorrow morning at 7:15 am at the Center for Wooden Boats. |
